Summer is here and the school year is over! As this year's crop of seniors graduates, we at the Core are welcoming in new executive staff for the 2019-2020 school year. May's DJ of the Month, DJ Liz, will be taking over as the Webmaster - read on to learn more about her!
Name: Elizabeth Bui
DJ Name: DJ Liz :)
Exec Position: Rock Director, Incoming Webmaster
Show Name: Aries Rising
Show Genre: Indie Rock, Dream Pop, Punk
Major/Year: Mechanical Engineering/Junior
Hometown: Fanwood, NJ
What's the explanation behind your show name?
It’s a little embarrassing, but I love astrology! I knew I wanted to play music that was loud and energetic, and coincidentally, those words also describe the traits of an Aries rising placement.
How long have you been at 90.3 The Core?
Since the Spring of 2018!
What made you want to join The Core?
I’ve always loved making playlists for my friends and family, so having my own radio show sounded like the coolest level up. I also knew a few people involved at the station and their enthusiasm for college radio convinced me to give The Core a try.
What has been your favorite experience as a DJ?
Meeting all the incredible people involved at the station! I’ve met so many people from different walks of life that I would’ve never crossed paths with if I hadn’t joined The Core. I’ve also been introduced to so much amazing local music from the New Brunswick area.
Tell us a little about what artists/bands you've been listening to recently.
Lately I’ve been getting into artists that cool dads would listen to, like Talking Heads and Grateful Dead. I’ve also been listening to the new Rico Nasty and Lizzo albums on repeat to keep me going during final exams!
Any advice to new/prospective DJs?
Get involved! The Core has so many different branches within it, you’re sure to find something you’re really passionate about and make new friends along the way!
Editor's note: Julia here, signing off as Webmaster! I've been a DJ here for my entire college career - four exciting and rewarding years jam-packed with new experiences and friends, and this last year has perhaps been the most rewarding of all. At the same time, I'm happy to be able to pass the torch on to Liz, because I know the website is in good hands!
